Oh my goodness, you guys, The Chosen Unleashed was absolutely incredible! As the final book in the Chosen of Bryndir trilogy, I was honestly a little nervous. Would it live up to the fantastic first two books? Would the ending feel rushed or unsatisfying? My friends, I can happily report that it exceeded all my expectations! Emeryl Williams truly delivered a breathtaking conclusion to Rhiannon and Alistar's story.
From the very first page, I was completely swept away. The suspense that built throughout the previous book? It just explodes in this one! The battle scenes are so vividly described, so incredibly immersive, that I felt like I was right there alongside Rhiannon and Alistar, dodging fireballs and battling unholy fiends. I seriously had a hard time putting it down each night; I was just too engrossed in the world of Bryndir. Williams's descriptive writing is truly a gift. She paints such a rich and detailed picture of the kingdom, its people, and the looming threat of Agrona, that the world feels completely real. You can practically smell the smoke from the battles and feel the chill of the approaching winter.
And speaking of Rhiannon and Alistar…their relationship! Oh, their relationship! The emotional journey they go through in this book is just heart-wrenching. They're facing such monumental challenges, both individually and as a couple, and seeing them struggle, fight, and ultimately find strength in each other, was incredibly moving. I loved how Williams balanced the high-stakes fantasy adventure with the deeply personal struggles of her characters. It's a testament to her writing that I felt so invested in their fate, that I was cheering them on every step of the way, and that I found myself laughing, crying, and completely swept away by their journey.
I also want to specifically call out the balance between fantasy and romance. So often, you find fantasy books that skimp on one or the other, or worse, the romance feels forced or out of place. It's the kind of romance that makes you believe in the characters’ connection, making their triumphs and struggles feel even more intense.
